Man Charged Over Attempted Attack On Police Officer.

A man (35) has been charged with the attempted murder of a policewoman after an axe attack in Sheffield on Wednesday night.

Nathan Sumner has also been  accused of a number of other offences in conjunction with the incident in Plow right Close.

The officer, whose name has been withheld, lost a finger when
she was attacked while attending a domestic incident.

She is also reported to have  suffered a fractured skull and a broken leg.

Four other male officers were said to have also been injured while trying to arrest the suspect.

Sumner has been charged with attempted murder, seven counts of assault, two counts of making threats to kill, affray, threatening someone with a blade, and the production of cannabis.

The 35-year-old summer who hails from Gleadless, Sheffield, is now in custody and will appear at Sheffield Magistrates' Court on Friday.
